Counter-UAS SYSTEMS

Black River designs and develops electronic warfare systems to detect, locate, track, and mitigate small drone incursions into denied areas. Our systems include Software Defined Radios (SDR), advanced signal processing algorithms, and a sophisticated software architecture self-contained in weather-resistant equipment. Our C-UAS systems utilize a common, easy-to-use interface that is identical across fixed-site, mobile, and man-portable designs. Our systems are produced in various form factors to support land, sea, and airborne operations. We are partnered with the Department of Defense and support contractors to develop and integrate advanced capabilities into our C-UAS systems. Black River actively provides production, training, operations, logistics, field service, support, and sustainment for hundreds of C-UAS systems deployed worldwide. All our C-UAS systems are software upgradeable to keep pace with new drone threats as they emerge.

RESILIENT, EXPANDABLE, ADAPTIVE CORE TRACKER (REACT)

Black River Systems has extensive experience with multi-sensor/multi-target automatic tracking, fusion, and sensemaking algorithms. Since 1998, we have focused our expertise on the deployment of these tracking algorithms to sensor payloads, tactical ground stations, and large-scale, distributed processing enterprises. Our REACT software provides the core, sensor-agnostic tracking functions that perform the essential data association and state estimation methods which are fundamental to all tracking solutions. REACT exploits MTI data produced by radar or other sensors such as MTI derived from motion imagery or infrared sensors. We have worked with MTI data from nearly every US and coalition radar system that has been conceived, developed, and deployed. REACT has been successfully used to generate tracks from Airborne Moving Target Indicator (AMTI), Video Moving Target Indicator (VMTI), and Moving Target Indicator Overhead Persistent Infrared (MTIO) data. It supports the tracking of air, ground, and maritime targets providing a true multi-domain solution.

REACT highlights include:
  • Resilient to data format issues, radar anomalies, and network failures.
  • Expandable to provide a tracking solution for nearly any Moving Target Indicator (MTI) producing radar system.
  • Adaptable through a highly configurable parameter space allowing tuning and optimization based on the sensor characteristics, collection deck, and mission environment.
The BRAT is an operational tracking product born from the REACT software that has been in continuous development for the Air Force, Department of Defense (DoD), and Intelligence Community (IC) since 2007. BRAT provides a joint, all-domain, real-time, Technology Readiness Level 9 (TRL-9) automatic tracking solution for MTI processing and exploitation that is widely accepted and used by the DoD and IC. The tracker was developed to quickly process entire missions (large volumes) of Maritime Moving Target Indicator (MMTI) and Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) data; the tracker typically processes data at rates 10x real-time for wide area surveillance platforms. The BRAT supports both real-time streaming and forensic environments and has been certified for use on standard desktop systems connected to the Air Force Global Information Grid.

Black River has substantial experience with developing and deploying operational trackers to a variety of systems with unique requirements.
  • The STARLite-BRAT software is integrated into the Army One Ground System and is used to process STARLite radar data on the Gray Eagle.
  • The TTWCS-BRAT software is part of the Navy’s Maritime Targeting Capability (formerly Synthetic Guidance) and is integrated into the Tactical Tomahawk Weapon Control System (TTWCS) and the Theater Mission Planning Center.
